ISES Tri-State Regional Chapter Meetings, 2008-2010
November 2010 – The Tri-State Chapter of the International Society of Exposure Science held its first annual meeting on November 9, 2010, at Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute (EOHSI), Piscataway, NJ. Thirty participants from local universities, government agencies, and industries attended the meeting. Jicheng Gong, a doctoral student from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, presented on the “Evaluation of Malondialdehyde in Exhaled Breath Condensate as a Biomarker of Air Pollution Induced Oxidative Stress.” This presentation was followed by “A Weight of Evidence Approach for Selecting Exposure Biomarkers for Biomonitoring,” a discussion by Dr. Michael Zelenka, Senior Environmental Scientist, from ExxonMobil Biomedical Sciences, Inc. The meeting ended with a poster session.
May 2010 – The Tri-State Chapter held a joint meeting on May 3, 2010, with the New Jersey Chapter of the Air and Waste Management Association at Steven’s Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ. The Chapter is looking forward to future joint meetings with various scientific organizations in the area.
May 2008 – The first meeting of the ISES Tri-State Chapter was held from 3:00 – 5:00 pm on May 5, 2008. Forty-five people from university, government, and industry attended this virtual teleconference held at the NJ Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), New York University (NYU), and via web conference. Drs. Jeffrey Fagliano from the NJ Department of Health Senior Service (NJDHSS), Aan Stern from NJDEP, George Thurston from NYU, and Rosemary Zaleski from Exxon Mobil gave presentations at the meeting to address the importance of exposure science in the Tri-State area. Attendees also discussed the Chapter organizational issues. The meeting committee included Drs. Zhihua (Tina) Fan (EOHSI/UMDNJ), Chair, Clifford Weisel (EOHSI/UMDNJ), co-Chair, Linda Bonanno (NJDEP), Romano Lall (NYU), and Richard Opiekun (NJDHS).
